Long, long before Mannat became his home, Shah Rukh visited one of Mumbai’s many beaches, Gorai.

He came looking for his wife-to-be, Gauri, who had come to the city with a friend. Shah Rukh missed her and told his mother about it. She gave him Rs 10,000 and he arrived with two friends in search of his lady love. After spending two days at a friend's place, the trio slept on the footpath near the Oberoi Hotel, using the bathroom at the Taj for a morning wash.

After scanning all major beaches, including Aksa, they were directed to a private beach near Gorai, where Shah Rukh finally found Gauri. They hugged each other and cried.

'Someday we will think about this and laugh,' he told her. And he was right. The new Shah Rukh Khan, the superstar, was waiting to be born.
