| Story | Roja is a moving tale of love and torment, with a beautifully worked soundtrack by A R Rehman. Set in the luscious valleys of Kashmir. The story revolves around a innocent village girl named Roja (Madhu) who has a playful, yet peaceful life, teasing the old village women and playing with her sisters. Her quiet life turns towards the complicated when a man from the city comes to marry her sister, but through circumstance ends up marrying her instead. After some resistance she gives in to her new husband (Aravind Swami) and starts to love him immensely. Their entire world becomes shattered when her husband is sent on an important military mission to Kashmir where he is brutally abducted by resistant terrorists seeking the release of their captured leader.
