| Story | She told him so many times Were you not so handsome I would not even speak to you. But that was before they got married. Their marriage was a simple one. The usual music and gaiety was absent, friends and relatives did not grace the occasions-no priest united them in holy wedlock. Anil who had dedicated his life to Art to the creation of Beauty-made her his wife in front of the idol with the heavens as his witness. Fate and Society conspired to keep Anil away from Asha. At the time of parting Anil told Asha wait for me, Asha waited long and tenderly with the sweet memory of her lover's first embrace to keep up her spirit, but Anil never came. There was that accident which changed Anil's whole life. His life was saved but his looks were gone. Anil who had convinced Asha that marriage was an unification of two souls that understand each other could not be so sure now. Though his heart yearned for Asha he was prevented by going to her by misgiving. What if she cared for his good looks only. Brooding and melancholy he let time slip away, Usha, the doctor's daughter had an understanding nature. Women do not care for looks alone, they have hearts too. A married women seizes to appreciate her husband's outward appearance she worships at his feet she claimed. Persuaded but not convinced Anil decided to go for his Asha who would be waiting for him. Asha was weathering the storms of morality and convention submitting quietly to all the tortures that bygothy could inflict.
